Hello, fellow Poly students. I've been enjoying the very fine Poly Gym since freshman year every other day until now and hopefully for some future(I graduated last semester). Being, perhaps, too naive or maybe lazy, I never bothered to lock the locker in which I chose to dump my things while I worked out. In the last 5 years, only my green lacosta shirt has mysteriously dissapeared from my locker but I never given much thought to that.

However, today some fellow gym goer or just a basement visitor decided to take my metro card and credit card from my wallet that was in my locker while I was working out or taking shower. He then proceeded to buy some more metro cards using my card. I believe, I settled this issue with my credit card company and my metro card had only 4 days left in it. So I got off easy. Let it be a lesson to me and maybe some of you - please lock things.

I hope you filled out a police report and talked to the MTA. You might be able to get security camera footage of the person who stole it. Then you can totally ruin their lives.

This is something I don't understand. ESPECIALLY since you had a shirt that "mysteriously disappeared" (nice euphemism) why would you leave a locker unlocked that had a credit card in there? I can't even feel bad for you considering that you already had a shirt stolen in the past and STILL didn't lock your stuff.

Don't get me wrong, the thief is a terrible low-life and if you can get back at them using security footage or whatever, then more power to you, but how do you not use basic steps to protect your stuff? And no, "trust" is not an answer. There's no reason to trust that no one is going to take your stuff, especially since (going back to the first point) something was already stolen before. It would be NICE if you could trust people, but you can't, and that's a simple point.

The biggest reason I'm frustrated is because you're actually posting something about this. Although it's respectable that you're trying to get others to avoid being in this situation and I thank you for that, the fact is, you posted something so obvious. As an addendum to your post about locking your stuff or else it might get stolen, I would recommend that you don't use cell-phones in showers because they might stop working, and that you keep your eyes open while walking down the street or else you might bump into things.

nevermind, you might never been to gym so here's some insight: half of the people don't bother to lock their lockers. I know this because every day when looking for a new locker, I open plenty with other people's stuff in it. So my message was directed to them.

Quite frankly, if you're dumb enough to leave your locker unlocked in downtown Brooklyn of all places, then you deserve to get your stuff jacked.
