So today the Poly Cisco router went down...the main router...which gives interwebs to the ENTIRE SCHOOL.

It was down from at least 8am until 10 minutes ago. They didn't have a spare part lying around, or a spare router, or a backup...wtf!!?

About fucking time.

I never liked the interwebs at poly, so sluggish.

Why did it go down? From my experience, Cisco router don't go down without a good reason.

Yesterday, Polytechnic experienced a serious network disruption that was
caused by a failure of the controller board on the main /core router. This
router is responsible for handling traffic and connectivity for the majority
of our internal and external applications and communications. The situation
was compounded as the backup controller board also failed.

The I.S. staff worked throughout the course of the day with the help of our
support partner, CISCO systems to rectify the issue. A number of options
were attempted such as utilizing configurations and parts from other routers
and/or switches that provide support to other areas of our network
infrastructure, however, all these attempts were unsuccessful.

The problem was rectified once we received the replacement controller board
from CISCO, installed, updated and reconfigured the router.

Full service for all applications / systems was returned at approximately
7:15pm yesterday. This morning we addressed the remaining residual issues
and are currently working to replace the backup controller board which will
be installed and configured for failover purposes.

I apologize for the inconvenience this outage caused each and everyone and
    appreciate your patience.

    Sincerely,

    Robert J. McLaughlin, CIO

I don't really buy that backup also failed excuse... sounds like their #1 board also serves as #2's board.
