-
Posted: 09/10/03 10:21 PMso if u dont have a perfect 4.0 ur a goner?
-
Posted: 09/10/03 10:28 PMWell, obviously you can't be valedictorian if you don't have the highest GPA...
-
Posted: 09/10/03 10:49 PMu know somebody with a 4.0?
-
Posted: 09/10/03 11:01 PMno i mean i figured the valedictorian had like a 3.97 or like a 3.89 or something for like that one time u got the dreaded a- or some junk like that u know. all u need is one a- to ruin a 4.0 and bring u down to the real world of 3.99999.

Posted: 09/10/03 11:09 PMI think cashcash wants to know what is the largest GPA of any senior. Maybe he hopes its him.
-
Posted: 09/10/03 11:13 PMI don't think there is a way to find that out. Privacy issues and all.
-
Posted: 09/10/03 11:45 PMi know its definitely above a 3.7 cause i know someone with a 3.7 ;/
now, how about we find out who's the smartest PT'er? (if they care to share)
It ain't me, i'm down at 3.3 desperately trying to get a 3.5 by the time i graduate. -
Posted: 09/10/03 11:51 PMim aiming for the 3.7 hopefully after this semester...
but doubt that makes me smartest either. -
Posted: 09/11/03 12:02 AMI don't know about others, but to me, 4.0 GPA seems like a massive waste of time, unless you really need it for graduate school or something. Usually, 4.0 people tend to be the ones who study for the sake of studying and getting a grade, not actually learning something useful. Of course, if 4.0 comes naturally to you, more power to you. Also, GPAs can be a bit misleading, some departments are a lot harsher with grading and require more work than others.

Posted: 09/11/03 12:20 AMflame bait: say you'll give them $1 for showing you their most recent transcript to those punk Poly kids and work on the stats!!!

j/k =P
I can't tell how much is highest, but the following is true:
no Poly undergrad gets exactly a 4.0 (unless Poly is no longer Poly).
a sad reason behind this is, some professors never give A's.
obviously, it's glad to see someone stand out to overthrow this sad yet true statement. -

well said, so well said. first time to see math geek being this agreeable. the sad fact is, the outside world never knows this is Poly (and they all seem to know Poly is a not-so-famous college), and never know a 3.2 from Poly might be better than a 3.99 from a party school. but then most Poly students have some work experience but little extracurriculars, damn for getting into a better college without a madly decent GPA. -

It's definitely above a 3.85 because that's what I have. -
Posted: 09/11/03 01:05 AMIt's definitely not impossible to have 4.0 GPA, you just have to aim for it.

Just for your information, agreeable (or disagreeable) have completely different meanings than what you're probably meaning here. Agreeable person is the person willing to agree, not the person with whom you agree. By the same token, disagreeabe person is somebody who's offensive, not somebody who you disagree with.

Posted: 09/11/03 01:23 AMbesides aiming for it, it also defpends on your luck. if your professor never gives A, it's completely bull**** to think of a 4.0.

Posted: 09/11/03 08:00 AMIn order to even *be in the running* for Valedictorian, I can safely say that you must have at least a 3.900. There have been cases of 4.000's in the past, but very rarely. Like MG said, it's a tremendous waste of time and is only useful for graduate school. Even then, the admission process itself is heavily dipped with politics.

All that time studying could be better spent elsewhere. Social skills and having connections are just as, if not more, important.

Personally, I think the "Student of the Year" thing is much more valuable..
...
...it has a better cash prize

Posted: 09/13/03 03:08 PM4.0's are possible. i've seen it be done. and if my friend (currently sophomore with a 3.95 GPA en route to a double major) were to stay in Poly, he would definitely have been his classes Valedictorian. he plans on leaving end of this year and i don't blame him. he'll most likely pull another 4.0 this semester. some people really just got it naturally.
